Keep posted with rising tension between Japan and China.
Major conflicts arose when Japan purchased the islands せんかく(or Diaoyu in China), the ownership of the islands has been heavily disputed and is causing violence against Japan to rise in China.  As anti-Japan protests spread through out China, Japanese shop owners are flying Chinese flags outside of their shops and some are being forced to flee for their safety.  Anger in China is rising and the situation is becoming more dangerous for Japanese living in China. Follow this conflict through BBC and NPR, both news stations have very good reports on the situation.

Sanjuro and Yojimbo

Sanjuro and Yojimbo.

Akira Kurosawa is one of my favorite movie directors, and these are my favorite movies of his.  Toshiro Mifune acts as a "rogue" samurai who although originally only working to serve himself ends up helping to resolve two very serious conflicts.  They are very entertaining and enlightening and are great to watch if you want to work on pronunciation and comprehension.

Hello, I'm Angelina Cicchella.  I chose to learn Japanese because I hope to someday work to improve and maintain relations not only between Japan and America, but other countries as well.  I believe that being able to understand a culture, and being able to communicate well and gracefully with people of other nations is a responsibility that we all cary.  I also believe that one should never underestimate the power of words.  My best friend's mother is Japanese and as I spent more time with their family, I began to hear more about the culture and language and I found it very interesting and enlightening.  I think that one can not truly understand a culture until they are able to speak their language, so I would like to learn Japanese in order to better understand their mentality and culture.
